Due to popular demand this post will show you options of notification customizations to avoid everyone getting “spam” Basecamp notifications.
Helpful Advice: This post will only show you the customizable options of what you have control over getting notified about. It’s up to you to decide what to select. For demonization purposes I will be using the desktop website, but the same options are available in the iOS app also.
Step 1: Navigate to “Notification Settings”

Notify me about everything
With this option selected. This includes notifications of new messages and comments, to-dos assigned to you, when someone @mentions you.
Only notify me when someone sends me a Ping or @mentions me
With this option selected. Basecamp will only send you a notification when someone sends you a “Ping” (DM) or @mentions you. You can check the “Hey! menu” (notifications) anytime to see what else is new for you.
Notify me about upcoming events
With this option selected. You’ll receive notifications the day before an event and an hour before it starts. For all-day events, you’ll be notified on the day of the event (usually 9:00am).
Notify me about upcoming assignments
With this option selected. You’ll receive notifications the day before an assignment is due and each day after until it’s completed.
Send me email notifications
With this option selected. Basecamp will bundle Pings (DMs) together if they happen within a few minutes of each other. You won’t be emailed if you are actively participating in a Ping (DM) or Chat (Group Chat) in the Basecamp app or on your computer.
Pop up notifications on my computer when Basecamp is open (Recommended)
With this option selected. Basecamp will notify you through browser or app notifications. You won’t get a notification about a particular Ping (DM), to-dos, or chat (Group Chat) if you are actively on the page.
Show the number of unread items
You’ll see the unread count for both Ping (DM) and “Hey! menu” notifications when Basecamp is open in your browser or when the app is open on your phone.
